Historical Drama

The story revolves around a few Brownville residents in the 1890s and their attachment to the town despite its decline.  Specifically, it is centered around a woman and a man, separated by his wandering spirit and her obligation to her home, Brownville.  The story follows as those two individuals grow up in the midst of a changing Midwest town;  they grow from teenagers to middle age as Brownville changes from the largest town in Nebraska Territory to a ghost town.  The transcontinental railroad’s path and the diminishing importance of river travel leads to Brownville’s decline. The play is composed of scenes through time and the storytelling of the residents themselves, pondering the transient existence of their town. It’s about finding your place, love, family, and the meaning of home.
